The Boardroom

Registration is now open! See below.

The Boardroom is a team-based, multi-round case competition for current high school students organized by Rotman Commerce with the assistance of the Rotman Commerce Alumni Steering Committee.

Participants will have the opportunity to demonstrate a bold vision, creativity, technical insight, and business leadership while solving a business case focused on the issues of tomorrow. Each member of the winning team will receive a $2,500 scholarship to Rotman Commerce, conditional on the participant’s successful admission, acceptance and registration to the program.

Who May Enter

The competition is open to only current grade 9-11 students who are Canadian citizens. Any team of 3-4 within grades 9-11 may form a team. Students from the same school may register as teams of 3-4 members; students can also opt to register as a Free Agent and be linked with 2-3 other Free Agents in their region to form a team. Teams of Free Agents are responsible for scheduling their own time to work on their case proposal.

Winners of previous Boardroom Case Competitions may compete as honorary participants, but are no longer eligible for the grand prize.

The Competition Format

The Boardroom is a two-round business case competition, with round 1 taking place in the spring and rounds 2 and 3 on the same day in the fall.

  • First Round

The first round of The Boardroom is to be completed online. Participants who register as free agents will be assigned a team after the registration deadline and before the case is released. Teams will have approximately 30 days to complete and submit their case proposal for Round 1.
  • Second Round

The top 12 teams from Round 1 will be notified in June that they have been selected to compete in Round 2 of The Boardroom, which will take place in the fall at the University of Toronto St. George Campus and virtually, if participants outside of the Greater Toronto Area qualify.
  • Final Round

The top 3 teams from Round 2 will be selected to present their proposals and compete for the Grand Prize. All finalists will receive a $100 gift card for their achievement.

The Grand Prize

Each member of the winning team will receive a $2,500 scholarship to Rotman Commerce, conditional on the participant’s successful admission, acceptance and registration to the program.
