Get Involved

As a Rotman Commerce grad, there are tonnes of ways for you to get involved with the program, our students, and your fellow alumni.

Participating as an alumni volunteer can offer many benefits, including strengthening your professional and personal networks, giving back to students by sharing your industry expertise and knowledge, and learning from the next generation of business leaders as they prepare for career success.

If you’re interested in volunteering with Rotman Commerce, check out the opportunities below and connect with the Rotman Commerce Alumni Team at rotmancommerce.alumni@utoronto.ca.

Alumni Volunteer Opportunities

Ideal for those who wish to develop a strong, ongoing, one-on-one relationship with a current student, our Alumni Mentorship Program provides an opportunity for you to share your experience and advice, network with young talent, and support your student on their journey. Alumni mentors participate in one-on-one meetings with their mentees, as well as group events with other mentors and students throughout the academic year.

Time commitment: Moderate to high

  • Attend four in-person meetings with your mentee
  • Take part in six to eight events throughout the year

Share your expertise with a small group of students in a relaxed setting. Students are eager to learn about what it takes to break into a career or to achieve success from professionals in all roles and industries – just bring yourself and your experience! Alumni coffee breaks are typically an hour long and can take place during the day at a time that is convenient to you.

Time commitment: Low

  • Provide your photo and bio
  • Meet with students for an hour between 8 AM and 4 PM either on campus or at your office
  • Tell your story and field student questions

If you’re not sure you can commit to participate in our Alumni Mentorship Program, consider being an online mentor through Rotman Connect. Rotman Connect offers an easy and flexible way to connect with students and new grads at your convenience. You determine what your time commitment is and what types of mentorship you’re available. To participate, simply create a profile on Rotman Connect using your LinkedIn credentials or email address.

Time commitment: Variable

  • You can choose to provide different types of mentorship (offer career advice, meet for coffee, review resumés, help with interview skills, host a site visit) to current students, fellow grads, or both
  • Be a mentor according to your schedule – you can turn off your availability during peak times or vacation

Rotman Commerce has a dynamic student body that is highly engaged in extra-curricular activities and specialized programs. As a graduate, you can assist in enriching the student experience by participating in panels, judging competitions, coaching competition teams, and getting involved in events.

Time commitment: Variable

  • Activities will vary according to current programming initiatives

Our Career Services team is always looking for ways to prepare our students for the workplace. Share your expertise as a mock interviewer or a guest speaker on an industry panel.

Time commitment: Variable

  • Mock interview volunteers may be asked to review job descriptions, prepare interview questions, interview students and provide feedback
  • Guest speakers may be asked to prepare presentations or other speaking notes
