Black Student Leadership Conference
In partnership with the Black Rotman Commerce student group, Rotman Commerce is excited to host an engaging day of hands-on training in the core business competencies of trading and case study. Prospective Black students are invited to campus to gain an introduction to the fields of finance and business problem-solving through seminars hosted by current Rotman Commerce students and staff. Participants will also apply their learnings and compete for prizes.
The Black Student Leadership Conference is held in February. Join our mailing list to receive an invitation when registration opens in the fall!

Meet your host: Vivian!

Vivian is a second-year student at Rotman Commerce specializing in Finance & Economics. When she’s not studying or commuting to campus from Bradford, Vivian stays engaged and involved in the U of T community as a member of the Black Rotman Commerce student group, U of T Robotics for Space Exploration, and the Rotman Commerce Book Club. Since September 2025, she has also served as a Rotman Commerce Student Ambassador, where she works with high school students from around the world, sharing insights on life at U of T and preparing for university.
Program
Market Simulation Challenge
Students will begin the conference with an interactive workshop designed to introduce them to financial markets and the RIT Market Simulator platform in the state-of-the-art BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab. Then, they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their newly learned skills and compete for prizes through a 3-heat Market Simulation Challenge using the RIT Market Simulator. No prior preparation is necessary for this challenge, and all required resources will be provided before and during the competition. Prizes include gift cards for the top 3 performers.
Case Study Seminar
In the second portion of the BSLC, join RCCT member Olivia Omoruyi who will guide participants through best practices and approaches in tackling business cases, conducting presentations and responding to tough questions from judges. The Rotman Commerce Competition Team (RCCT) is an internationally recognized student organization that competes in regional, national and international case competitions every year. This training is the same offered to all incoming first year students when they join the RCCT and can give high school students a valuable advantage in their high school case clubs and beyond. Problem-solving is an essential skill that all business professionals must demonstrate, and one that students at Rotman Commerce develop through analyzing real-world cases.
