Prerequisites and Corequisites for RSM Courses
Rotman Commerce requires that all prerequisites and corequisites be completed as outlined in the Academic Calendar in order to enrol in RSM courses. Please refer to the RC website for prerequisite information for Special Topics courses. These requirements are strictly enforced to ensure students are adequately prepared for course content.
Please note:
- Although ACORN may allow you to enrol in a course without the required prerequisite(s) or corequisite(s), this does not confirm your eligibility to remain enrolled. Prerequisite and corequisite reviews are conducted by the Rotman Commerce Program Office, not ACORN.
- Students who enrol without meeting the required prerequisite(s) and/or corequisite(s) will be removed from the course once eligibility checks are completed. Reviews occur on an ongoing basis throughout the enrolment period.
To avoid enrolment issues, review the course description in the Academic Calendar carefully to confirm you meet all requirements before enrolling.
Deferred Exams (SDF) and Prerequisite Enrolment
The following guidelines apply to students seeking to enrol in a course while awaiting the completion of a deferred exam in a prerequisite course:
- Students who do not have an approved petition to write a deferred exam are not permitted to enrol in a course that requires that prerequisite and will be removed by the Rotman Commerce Program Office.
- If your petition has been approved and your grade in the prerequisite course is recorded as SDF, you may be permitted to enrol provided that both of the following conditions are met:
- Your term-work average in the prerequisite course (excluding the deferred exam) is at least 50%; and
- You have completed at least 60% of the course deliverables (e.g., quizzes, cases, midterms, participation, etc).
Important Note:
An SDF notation may temporarily allow a course to be used toward prerequisite requirements (subject to the 50/60 rule above), but it cannot be used to satisfy program entry requirements. For example, first-year courses required for Guaranteed Admission must be fully completed with a final grade.
If you have any questions or concerns related to prerequisites, please contact a Rotman Commerce Academic Advisor for guidance.
