Throughout the year, Rotman Commerce Career Services offers many unique opportunities for corporate partners to participate in student professional development activities. Examples of these include:
Rotman Commerce Career Services offers a wide variety of generalized skill-building programming and workshops, designed to give our students the tools to better prepare our students for the job market. Corporate partners are invited to participate in general programming as well, allowing employers to help hone the skills of potential employees.
We encourage industry experts to connect with our students on the importance of Resume/Cover Letter, Interviewing Skills, Networking and their Personal Brand
Specialized industry programs
Rotman Commerce students have access to both the U of T Career Centre and our own commerce specific career services. We have focused our resources in developing specialized programming (descriptions below) by year of study (Y2, Y3, Y4) as well as field of interest (accounting, consulting, finance, and marketing) to address the specific needs of business students. Some examples include:
- Y2 Career Month (opportunities for corporate partners to connect with our junior students)
- Accounting Bootcamp
- Management Consulting Alumni Program (MCAP)
- NYC Finance Trip
- Capital Markets – Finance Program
- Financial Services – Finance Program
- Entrepreneurship Series
Mock interviews are a great way to meet our students face-to-face and to have a direct impact on their future career success. Depending on how much time you can commit, you will be able to sit one-on-one with students to conduct 30-minute behavioural interviews over a couple of hours, a half-day, or even a full day. We make the process easy by providing you with an evaluation form to fill out and all we ask is that you supply the questions and the feedback.
Employer site visits with Rotman Commerce
Employer site visits are a series of company visits and workshops available to Rotman Commerce students. Students will get a first-hand look at a variety of businesses, learn about the types of career opportunities in the organization and build a network with alumni and potential employers.
Company visits are quite flexible in terms of length and programming. Usually they are between 2-3 hours in length. Suggested format could include a tour, a presentation/workshop, followed by a mix-and-mingle.
Corporate office hours
Hosted throughout the year, corporate partners are invited to campus to hold office hours for students. We provide you with an office and schedule students for 15-20 minute meetings.
Rotman Commerce is proud to support a number of student-led organizations. Participating in or sponsoring student-led events is an excellent way to increase your brand awareness within the student population and to connect directly with students prior to recruitment.
Please refer to our Rotman Commerce student groups for a complete listing!
For more details on student organizations, please email Linnet Kocheril, Assistant Director, Student Life at email@example.com.
Rotman Commerce Alumni within your organization may want to consider volunteering for activities that connect them with students.
Each year, we welcome hundreds of Rotman Commerce graduates back to campus as mentors, guest speakers, and advisors. These alumni play a vital role in helping our students get the most out of their time with us. There are many ways for alumni to volunteer and connect directly with current students. The activities have varying levels of commitment, so they can choose which might best fit their availability. To volunteer, please complete the Volunteer Form.
Alumni coffee breaks
Alumni Coffee Breaks are a one-hour event with 3-5 students that provide alumni an opportunity to share his/her experiences with students from all years of study. They are normally hosted at a local café but can also be held off-site. Coffee breaks are held between September and the end of March and are scheduled to suit the needs of our alumnus. These meetings have been a huge success with both students and alumni.
The Rotman Commerce Mentorship Program is ideal for those who wish to develop a strong, ongoing relationship with an upper-year student. While it requires a high level of commitment, past participants have found that it provides an extremely rewarding opportunity to network with young talent and give back to the Rotman Commerce community. In addition to sharing your experiences and advice with mentees, we host various events throughout the year designed to provide mentors opportunities to connect with all mentees and mentors.
Student group/co-curricular opportunities
Every year, Rotman Commerce alumni return to campus to connect with students as guest speakers, competition judges, mock interviewers, panelists and advisors. Please let us know if you would like to volunteer with one of our Rotman Commerce supported student groups: Accounting Society, Beyond Business, Consulting Association, Finance Association, Law Association, Marketing Association, Pride Alliance, Students’ Association, Toastmasters and Women in Business.
Site-visits/student networking events
In collaboration with Rotman Commerce Career Services, Student-Alumni Networking Receptions are held three times throughout the year: August (fourth-year students), November (third-year students) and March (second-year students). Only a two-hour commitment, these receptions are great opportunities for graduates to engage in informal conversations with current students.
