Conferences and Competition Subsidy program - OPEN

Travel places, meet new people, learn & network!

External conferences and competitions allow you access to interact with professionals and students from around the world who share a common interest with you. Attending these types of events can help you widen your viewpoint of a profession and industry or introduce you to entirely new possibilities.

The Rotman Conference & Competition Subsidy provides financial assistance to Rotman Commerce students to allow you to experience all that these events have to offer.

Subsidy Eligibility

  • The applicant must be a full-time or part-time Rotman Commerce student and in good academic standing
  • The subsidy requests must be submitted at least one month before departure for the event
  • The applicant may apply for multiple events per year up to a maximum of $700 over the budget year (May 1st to April 30th)
  • The applicant must complete the second part of the subsidy application process within four weeks of returning from the event. This includes a written reflection on key learning outcomes and takeaways from your experience.

Subsidy Amount

Maximum subsidy amounts are allocated based on the location of the conference/competition. Please see the below chart for a specific breakdown.

Students may receive a maximum of $700 per budget year (May 1 to April 30) and a maximum of $1,200 in subsidy throughout their time as a Rotman Commerce student.

Students may spend the subsidy funds on transportation, accommodations, and registration costs. Students are financially responsible for any additional costs for the experience not covered by the subsidy amount.

Any expenses outside the direct event are not covered by the subsidy program, including travel documents (passport/visa/insurance), meals, sightseeing, membership dues, and personal purchases. Travel and accommodation are also not covered for events within the Greater Toronto Area. Expenses incurred for extra nights/days stayed in the destination city are not covered.

The total number of subsidies provided for an event and amount per applicant will depend on the number of requests and the total cost per student.
