Centre for Professional Skills
The Centre for Professional Skills (CPS) works with both faculty and staff to scaffold professional skill development throughout the four years of the BCom program.
Our supports focus on growing your competencies across 6 broad skill areas.
Sharpen your collaboration skills to be a better leader
Group projects, case competitions, student groups, part time jobs, internships, and volunteering all require you to work with others. CPS’s extensive in-course and co-curricular teamwork initiatives will help you develop your interpersonal skills for managing meetings, setting and following up on team goals, resolving conflict, and more. You will become successful collaborators who are ready for anything.
Refine your writing and presenting skills to be a better communicator
Our in-course workshops and online resources help you to learn and apply the standards and expectations of oral and written communication across different fields and industries.
In addition, we offer one-on-one and group writing and presentation appointments through our dedicated Writing Centre. These appointments will give you the personalized support you need to become effective, engaging communicators.
Develop a growth mindset by learning to give and receive feedback
Through in-course and co-curricular initiatives, you will develop strategies for openly receiving, reflecting on, and implementing feedback. You will learn how to effectively give feedback to your peers and colleagues and maintain healthy working relationships.
Plus, we work with instructors and TAs to ensure that you receive targeted, relevant feedback on key assignments.
