It’s easy to think that success at Rotman Commerce is all about grades. It’s not! There are lots of ways to measure success at university; grades are just one. Participating in student life, pursuing leadership opportunities, and developing professional skills are other ways to get the most out of your university years. We offer a suite of resources to help you keep your edge, no matter what your goals are.

All Rotman Commerce students have access to the Rotman Commerce portal, our central information hub. Everything that happens at Rotman Commerce is listed on the portal so don’t miss out. To log in, simply click the link in the upper right hand corner of this site!
The Rotman Commerce portal has four main sections: Academic Services, Career Services, Student Life, and Student Groups. Each has important information about opportunities and events that might interest you. You can accomplish a lot just by logging into the portal. For example, you can book academic advising and career coaching appointments, sign up for conferences, and browse job postings. You can also access career and academic resources that will help you reach your goals.
Protip: be sure not to confuse the Rotman Commerce portal with UofT’s Blackboard Portal. Both are vital to your success, but only our portal lists all the exclusive opportunities for Rotman Commerce students. To take advantage of all that we have to offer, log in to the Rotman Commerce portal daily!
One of the advantages of being a Rotman Commerce student is having access to our extensive alumni network. Many of our graduates work at prestigious firms right here in downtown Toronto. And because they’re nearby, we are able to organize events and programs for current students to learn from alumni expertise.

Below are some of our ongoing initiatives – new ones are developed all the time, so check the Student Life section of the portal to make you’re up-to-date on the programs that are available to you!
Community Volunteer Income Tax Program (CVITP)
In partnership with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA) and community organizations, the CVITP trains Rotman Commerce students to help eligible individuals prepare their tax returns. This volunteer experience provides transferable employment experience while getting students involved in our communities.
Our Competition Team provides students with in-depth coaching and training to help them compete successfully in inter-university competitions. These competitions give Rotman Commerce students the chance to pit their talents against students from other schools, while establishing valuable connections with peers and judges from different institutions and companies.
Financial Literacy Volunteer Program
The Financial Literacy Volunteer Program trains volunteers from Rotman Commerce to co-facilitate workshops on financial literacy in low income neighbourhoods across Toronto. By participating in this program, students help increase access to financial literacy support among low-income individuals across the city.
In this real-life consulting program, students gain first-hand experience in providing consulting services to non-profit clients. Through this, students develop critical analytic and presentation skills and get a sense of what it is like to work in the consulting field. Students work alongside their peers and are mentored by alumni who are professional management consultants.
The Portfolio Management Group
The Portfolio Management Group (PMG) is a co-curricular initiative that teaches Rotman Commerce students about financial markets. The PMG experience integrates theory and practice in analyzing equities. Through PMG, students develop solid investment research, writing, and presentation skills that position them well for a career in capital markets.
Finance Research and Trading Lab
The BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab is a state-of-the-art facility that combines some of the most advanced computer hardware with sophisticated financial analysis software. Rotman Commerce students can access the lab, located in the Rotman School of Management building at 105 St. George Street, from 8:45 am – 9:00 pm Monday to Thursday, and from 8:45 – 5:00 pm on Fridays. Some of our courses integrate the trading lab into assignments and lectures, including RSM230H (Financial Markets), RSM330H (Investments), RSM333H (Introduction to Corporate Finance), RSM434H (Financial Trading Strategies), and RSM435H (Futures and Options Markets). In addition, students can register for workshops on Excel or financial modeling, hosted in the BMO Financial Group Finance Research and Trading Lab.
Student Activity Funding
As a Rotman Commerce student, you can access program funding for student activities! For example, our student organizations get annual funding that enables them to organize student events throughout the year. In addition, individual students can apply for financial resources through our External Conference/Competition Subsidy Program. While funds are limited, the program encourages students to participate in external conferences by subsidizing registration and travel fees to maximum of $700.
