With the Rotman Commerce BCom, you’ll graduate with a specialist in Management, Finance & Economics, or Accounting. Each specialist is built upon a strong foundation in each of the core components of business – finance, accounting, marketing, organizational behaviour, operations, strategy, and economics – which prepares you for success in a wide range of careers in business and beyond.

Specialist in Management

The Specialist in Management is our umbrella program for studies across all areas of business. This specialist offers a high degree of flexibility and allows students to develop a strong understanding of the key business subdisciplines while also gaining expertise in their particular areas of interest. Students in the Management Specialist can choose to pursue a Focus in one or more of the following fields:

Each Focus requires the completion of particular courses that cultivate an advanced knowledge in the area. The Management Specialist will appeal to students considering a broad range of careers, including entrepreneurism, consulting, strategy, operations and human resources, sales, marketing, banking, or administration in both the for-profit and non-profit sectors. Due to the flexibility of this specialist, management students often elect to pursue a Minor in other fields of professional or personal interest in the Faculty of Arts & Science.

Specialist in Finance & Economics

Our Specialist in Finance & Economics offers a rigorous combination of the related fields of finance and economics. Designed for students who wish to develop a deep understanding of the finance discipline, this specialist encompasses advanced courses in both economics and finance.

Students interested in pursuing a career in finance may consider either this specialist, or the Management Specialist with a Focus in Finance. The Finance & Economics Specialist may be particularly appealing to students interested in post-graduate study in finance.

Specialist in Accounting

Our Specialist in Accounting provides an in-depth education that offers students an exceptional preparation for careers as Chartered Professional Accountants (CPAs). This specialist program provides all the requirements for students to continue into the Graduate Diploma in Professional Accounting (GDipPA) or the CPA PEP Education program, and to ultimately obtain their CPA designation.

In addition to developing deep expertise in the core accounting areas of financial and managerial accounting, taxation, and audit, students in the Accounting Specialist gain a critical understanding of the full range of business sub-disciplines to ensure they have proficiency in the different businesses and business environments with which they’ll work as accountants.

Elective Courses and Secondary Programs

As a Rotman Commerce student, you will also be part of U of T’s Faculty of Arts & Science. This means you can take courses from many of the hundreds of Arts & Science programs offered by the University. Some of our students also choose to complete a major or minor in programs like psychology, English, political science, or statistics. And nearly all of our students can graduate with a minor in Economics based on the mix of courses required in our curriculum.
