Enrolling in a specialist

For Rotman Commerce students with Guaranteed Admission (GA):

Beginning March 1, you can apply to the specialist of your choice by submitting a request on ACORN.

After you’ve completed your GA requirements, you will be ‘INVITED’  to the specialist you’ve chosen on the following schedule:

• June – for students who complete their GA requirements in April (Winter term)
• July – for students who complete their GA requirements in June (Summer F term)
• September – for students who complete their GA requirements in August (Summer S term)

Applying to a Rotman Commerce specialist program:

Step One: Apply during the first application period (March 1, 2024 – April 26, 2024)

1. Log on to ACORN and select Academics > Enrol & Manage > Programs
2. Select ‘Add a Program’
3. Enter the code for the Rotman Commerce specialist of your choice:
   • ASSPE2431: Specialist program in Management
   • ASSPE2038: Specialist program in Finance & Economics
   • ASSPE2676: Specialist program in Accounting
4. Confirm your request
5. If the status next to the program code changes to ‘REQUESTED’ — You have applied for admission to this program’ then you have successfully completed your program application

Note that additional program codes may appear in the drop-down menu when adding a program. The three program codes listed in Step 3 above are the only three that are available for selection. If you select another code your request will not be successful.

Step Two: Accept your invitation (beginning June 1, 2024 – July 5, 2024)

1. Log on to ACORN and select Academics > Enrol & Manage > Programs
2. A list of your programs will appear
3. Check the status next to your program. If the status is:
   • INVITED: You have been offered admission to this program and you can move on to the next step
   • REFUSED: You have been denied admission to this program. Contact a Rotman Commerce Academic Advisor to discuss next steps.
   • REQUESTED: Your program request is still being processed. Check back again.
4. If you’ve been invited, you can now accept or decline the invitation
5. If the status next to the program code changes to ACTIVE, you’ve successfully completed all steps and are enrolled in this program
6. To decline an invitation, simply select DELETE

Step Three (Optional): Enrol in a Focus

1. Log on to ACORN and select Academics > Enrol & Manage > Programs
2. Select ‘Add a Program’
3. Enter the code for the Rotman Commerce focus of your choice:
   • Management students:
     • ASFOC2431A: Focus in Marketing
     • ASFOC2431B: Focus in Finance
     • ASFOC2431C: Focus in Leadership in Organizations
     • ASFOC2431D: Focus in Strategy & Innovation
     • ASFOC2431E: Focus in Financial Statement Analysis
     • ASFOC2431F: Focus in International Business
     • ASFOC2431G: Focus in Data Science in Business
     • Focus in Managing in Diverse Economies
   • Finance & Economics students:
     • ASFOC2038A: Focus in Data Science in Business
     • Focus in Managing in Diverse Economies
   • Accounting students:
     • ASFOC2676A: Focus in Data Science in Business
     • Focus in Managing in Diverse Economies
4. Confirm your request

You must accept your invitation and be ‘ACTIVE’ in your program before your Course Enrolment Start date in July in order to enrol in RSM courses for the fall/winter session.

The admission requirements and tuition fees are the same for each of the three specialist programs.

You can only be enrolled in one specialist, but you may change your specialist at any time. If you’re interested in changing your specialist, make an appointment with an academic advisor to go over any issues that may impact your studies.

If you are an Arts & Science student who did not enter first year in the Commerce Guaranteed Admission stream, consult the A&S Calendar for information on how to apply to Rotman Commerce.

Students without complete GA requirements

If you have not yet completed your GA requirements, your status for your Rotman Commerce program will remain as ‘REQUESTED’. This will be the case if you are taking summer courses or have a deferred examination.

Before you can enrol in courses, you must be enrolled in the minimum appropriate combination of programs (1 specialist; 2 majors; or 1 major + 2 minors). Be sure you’ve selected an interim ‘open’ program(s), which will satisfy the minimum combination requirement before your start date in July.

You may not enrol in any further RSM courses until you’ve been ’INVITED’ to, and have enrolled in, a Rotman Commerce program (i.e. if you complete your GA requirements in the summer S term, you won’t be able to choose RSM courses until September).
