Vice-Chair and former CEO of CLP Power Hong Kong
Betty Yuen, Vice Chairman of CLP Power Hong Kong Limited (CLP Power), is responsible for the strategic direction of the company’s electricity business in Hong Kong. She is also Chairman of CLP Nuclear Investment Company, responsible for CLP Group’s nuclear investments in China. Prior to taking up the current position in 2010, Yuen was the Chief Executive Officer of CLP Power for seven years.
Under her stewardship, CLP Power has achieved outstanding results. The company is the larger of the two electricity suppliers in Hong Kong and provides services to about 80% of Hong Kong’s population. CLP Power is one of the best regarded public utilities in the Asia Pacific region, providing highly reliable and environmentally friendly electricity supply to about 5 million customers in Hong Kong.
In 2004, Yuen was the first Hong Kong person to be named the “Business Woman of the Year” in the internationally acclaimed Veuve Clicquot Award.
Betty is an active member in the community. In December 2011, she was elected to the Election Committee for the Chief Executive of Hong Kong. She has been appointed by the Hong Kong Government to sit on various committees and councils. She holds various positions with business organizations and sits on a number of advisory committees in universities in Hong Kong and in China.
Yuen received a Bachelor of Commerce from the University of Toronto in Canada in 1979. She then joined Pricewaterhouse Coopers in Toronto and was qualified as Canadian Chartered Accountant in 1981. She has a strong business, management, finance and accounting background and has held a number of senior management positions in PricewaterhouseCoopers and ExxonMobil Corporation in Hong Kong and overseas. She is married with two adult children.
